Today's lesson, Racism. If you see something written here that you’ve said or done, use it as an opportunity. Take it as a wake up call and make the decision to grow, change and be conscious of your own privilege. Remember, I am not a speaker for the entirety of a people.

Dear Black Americans,

Those of you on this never ending “Back to Africa” kick, you are going “Back” to Africa by your damn self. I am not going “Back” to Africa. I was born in the USA. Can you please stop this “Back” to Africa stuff? You saying that we should go “Back” to Africa is no different to me than you saying we should go “Back” to Australia. I have spent equal amounts of my life on these two continents. None. You do realize that Black Americans are the only group talking about going “Back” to what we perceive as our native land, right?

We have to stop this.

America is AS MUCH our country as it is everyone else’s who was born here, raised here, died here, birthed here or came here of their own volition (or not). You are saying “Let’s leave our home because they treat us like shit.”

NO! DAMN IT!

Let’s FIX out home so we feel like we’re home.

Plus, what is this “Africa” crap? I know that you are not a leader of any kind when your location point is “Africa.” You know Africa isn’t a city, right? Shit, can you narrow it down a little?

Hey everyone, don’t like it here? Let’s go “Back” to some random continent. Yes, it IS a random choice. You are saying “Africa” because the history books that you KNOW are full of lies, told us that if we are Black in America we “Came” from Africa. You do know that during slave trade, there were Black people all over the globe, right? Why are you accepting the lies that history books have told you as truths? Not only that, why are you taking the lie of “That is where you BELONG” as truth? I belong in my home, with my people. That is in America, with Americans.

On top of all of this, I can not, for the life of me, imagine what Africans think when they hear some foolish American saying “Back to Africa.” The amount of side eye I have for you is immeasurable so I can’t even contemplate what they must be thinking.

Anytime your rhetoric for your own race is the same as the Klu Klux Klan’s rhetoric ABOUT your race, you should really reexamine your life goals and your view of your own worth.

I am not leaving my country.

I’m damn sure not going to let anyone tell me that America is not MY country.

I am also not willing to leave other brown people behind so they then become the “New” Black.

Would’ve figured this would be common sense, since we’ve had to tolerate the Smiling Negro trope that exists in America.
