Today's lesson, Racism. If you see something written here that you’ve said or done, use it as an opportunity. Take it as a wake up call and make the decision to grow, change and be conscious of your own privilege. Remember, I am not a speaker for the entirety of a people.
I can’t help but think that the “Second degree” part will end up being a “We did this to appease. We had no intentions of actually trying this case for real.” While people are busy watching this foe case go down, no will notice that he is not being kept in the general population of the jail system. For his safety of course.
This man will live like a king. No matter what the outcome of the trial.
My heart hurts.
Second degree is really the best we could have hoped for. First degree is premeditated, and extremely hard to prove. They would have to prove a deeper motive. What i expected them to do was voluntary manslaughter, which is the same as second degree but with “mitigating circumstances”, which is basically the Stand Your Ground Law. Charging him with second degree is a really good sign.
I didn’t really think about it like that. I hope you’re right.
Already seeing that there are chances the murder charge might be thrown out due to the wording of the Stand Your Ground law, which is deeply disturbing.
That is my fear. I don’t see how anyone has hope that this will be handled in the way a murder trial should be. We have no reason to believe in the justice system at this point in time. At least not in this particular case.
